Red October

Today was the Red October Run in Wayne, MI. It's a run we've participated in for three years now. Amy ran the 10K and 5K in years past, and this year Kyle ran the 5K. The kids have done the Jr. run (one mile) last year and this year. We had great results today! Kyle, the closet runner, finished his first 5K in about 23:50, winning 2nd in his age group. I was so surprised he did so well, since he's only been running two or three times in the last two months. Apparently his long legs and slim frame are conducive to running. Close behind Kyle was our good friend Joe Parker. We also watched our friends the Wilsons run. They are both VERY fast; Emily beat both Kyle and Joe by a good two minutes! Hayden, Jillian, and Amy ran the mile in a quick 11:37. Hayden did great, running almost all of the mile. Jillian turned around to stay with him. If she would have kept running, she would have finished much sooner. It was a really fun morning. I'm glad that we can enjoy exercising together.

Last night we enjoyed canoeing on the Huron River with our ward. It was a really nice evening, and very warm. Some crew teams were also practicing on the stretch of the river we were on. It was funny to hear what the coxswains were yelling at the teams. They were pretty harsh sometimes. My favorite was "push hard today so you can be that much better tomorrow. COME ON!" Not so motivating was "you're worthless!" They were outfitted with microphones and headsets, so it was a pretty high-tech operation. Kara waited on shore for us and was a good baby the whole night. It's been a great weekend, and it's only Saturday.
